Hiya! My name is Suwayba. I recently joined Home Girls and I will be writing weekly articles that you can enjoy straight from your mailbox. I’ll be sharing immigrant daughters’ experiences and lessons we can take away. My main intention is to publish writing that encourages healing and striving to be the best version of ourselves. So buckle up because you’ve joined the BADDEST sisterhood in the game!

As a short introduction, I am a Black Muslim woman who lives in Bristol. I am currently going into the final year of my Law undergraduate degree. I made the silly mistake of living at home whilst at university so I haven’t really caught a break from the daily struggle of being an immigrant daughter! (My fault really) .When I’m not raising my younger sisters, I can be found weightlifting, baking anything with lots of sugar or jamming out to Billie Eilish /Teyana Taylor.

To get to know me more, you can listen to our recent podcast episode. I spoke about therapy, my mental health journey and parentification.

Earlier this year, I fell in love with writing and journaling when I was suffering from panic attacks and depression. Writing has since been a way of documenting my reality. Now it has become something that I do no matter how I’m feeling. If your reading this, it also means my writing has become a way of sharing my experiences and (hopefully) helping others.

I hope you enjoyed reading this article as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Until next week take care,
Suwayba
